$1,200.00

ITEM
A relaxed straight jean built with vintage pinstriped deadstock denim, waist 30, run through almost every creative machine in the shop. Made by hand at 1059 Market Street, San Francisco. One of one.

CONTEXT
The denim came in a black duffel bag, dropped off by Marvin — a pastor who collects deadstock the way some people collect records, no inventory, no explanation, just a bag that shows up when it shows up. Sounds fake. It's real. Ironic, too — a man of the cloth funneling raw material into a shop that turns it into something else entirely. This bolt sat until it earned the full treatment: silkscreen, heat press, sanding, embroidery, and three different stitch constructions, one panel, no shortcuts. The interns wanted to learn some new tools and told me they couldn't sew, so I had to show them something — this is a capsule of that moment. It's one of the few pairs I've ever refused to sew to spec, deliberately worked in an anti-manner after years of sewing "perfect" jeans. A student worked the floor on this one and left having learned something they didn't have before — every pair teaches somebody. There's a detail on this jean that nods to denim's own anniversary — the kind of thing you notice if you know what you're looking at, and don't need explaining if you don't.

COMPOSITION
Deadstock denim — approx. 12oz, sourced blind, no provenance beyond the bag it arrived in
Silkscreen press — surface treatment, hand-pulled
Heat press — bonding and finish work
Sanding — stone-distressed by hand with HMS stones, controlled wear pattern
Embroidery — detail work, single panel
Multiple stitch constructions — structural seams reinforced across three separate machines
Cotton lining — sourced from August, the Fabric Man of SF
Every process run on the same piece of fabric, start to finish.

STORY
This jean exists because a pastor decided deadstock denim was worth saving, and someone needed to know what to do with it once it showed up — material finds its way to people who know how to finish what it started. Students had a hand in this one, same as they always do. The work doesn't stop with me. It moves through whoever's on the floor that day, and they leave knowing the machines a little better than they did that morning.
